If you're tired of watching your Verizon bill climb higher every month, there's a surprisingly simple trick that could knock $10 off each line for an entire year. That adds up to $120 per line, or $480 for a family with four lines—all without switching carriers or even threatening to leave.
According to PhoneArena, the secret lies in requesting something called a Number Transfer PIN through the My Verizon app. This PIN is normally what you'd need if you were actually switching to another carrier and taking your phone number with you. But here's the thing: just asking for it can trigger Verizon to offer you a loyalty discount, even if you have no intention of leaving.
The process is dead simple. Open the My Verizon app and navigate to Profile & Settings, then My Devices, Manage Devices, and finally Number Transfer PIN. Select Generate PIN, and that's it. Once Verizon sees you're requesting the PIN, they may get nervous about losing you as a customer and offer you a discount to stick around. You have seven days to actually use the PIN to switch carriers, but you're under no obligation to do so.
Some Verizon customers on Reddit have reported success with this method, with one saying they received $10 off four lines for 12 months. That's real money back in your pocket without any commitment or contract changes.
Why is Verizon suddenly being so generous? The carrier is feeling pressure from competitors. Verizon recently reported a net loss of 7,000 postpaid phone customers in the third quarter of 2025, compared to gaining 18,000 customers during the same period in 2024. With a new CEO at the helm who's focused on addressing customer concerns, the company seems more willing to hand out discounts to keep subscribers from jumping ship.
You can also check the Offers section in your My Verizon app first—some customers might see a loyalty discount already waiting for them without needing to request the transfer PIN. But if there's nothing there, the PIN trick is worth a shot. The worst that can happen is you don't get an offer. The best case? An extra $120 per line stays in your wallet over the next year.
