Some iPhone users on Verizon’s network are currently going through an issue with their device’s dual eSIM feature. And as it turns out, the problem could be a lot more serious since users are already considering switching to AT&T over it.
Verizon users have turned to Reddit to voice out their frustrations over this ordeal. And since it doesn’t look like a solution from Verizon is on the horizon, many are already considering making the move.
As shared by PhoneArena, some users have had difficulty getting dual eSIM to work on their new (unlocked) devices. One user previously had no problem getting the feature to work on their iPhone 12 Pro. But after upgrading to the new iPhone 15 Pro, the feature is no longer working.
The user has tried troubleshooting their device, resetting network settings, and even reaching out to both Verizon and Apple. Still, they encountered a problem switching between eSIMs during calls. If they’re on one line, the other call goes directly to voicemail instead of being able to switch between calls by putting the former on hold. What’s worse is the problem has been ongoing for five months.
Other users have jumped in on the Reddit thread to share their own experience. One user even had to go through a 4-hour chat with a Verizon agent only to be advised to go to a store and exchange the new iPhone 15+.
Some users have also shared how they lost signal on the Verizon line when using dual eSIM. But when they tried to reach out for support, it only felt like they were going around in circles: Apple identified the problem was on Verizon’s end, Big Red blamed Wi-Fi calling before blaming the problem on using different carriers on dual eSIM. If everything was supposed to be working fine, it shouldn’t be a problem to use different carriers on dual eSIM. It’s also important to point out that the Redditor who started the thread was using two Verizon eSIMs but still encountered the issue.
Apple has updated its support article on the use of Dual SIM by sharing:
“When you're on a call, if the carrier for your other phone number supports Wi-Fi calling, you can answer incoming calls on your other number. When you're on a call using a line that isn't your designated line for cellular data, you need to turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching to receive calls from your other line. If you ignore the call and you have voicemail set up with your carrier, you’ll get a missed-call notification and the call will go to voicemail. Check with your carrier for Wi-Fi calling availability and find out whether additional fees or data usage applies from your data provider.”
We hope this issue gets sorted out soon. It makes no sense why users would be encountering a problem with dual SIM but it’s a real issue that can be a nightmare for users. Are you also encountering this problem? Have you considered switching carriers? Let us know in the comments.
