T-Mobile is officially setting a date for its Sprint CDMA 3G network shutdown. According to an internal memo leaked by this report, it looks like the shutdown will be taking place on January 1, 2022.
In addition to revealing the shutdown date, the memo details some important information regarding the event. The memo also details that the shutdown will allow T-Mobile to continue building the best 5G network in the country. And in order to do this, they will need to shut down the CDMA network to allocate the funds from older technologies.
The memo also details how this information can be relayed to customers that will be affected by the change. Since May 21st, the company has already started notifying affected customers about the upcoming change. T-Mobile will continue to send out more emails later in the year to remind customers to make the switch.
Along the way, T-Mobile will be releasing different offers to encourage customers to switch to a newer and compatible device. Right now, there’s no word on what these offers will be but we’ll know soon enough what T-Mobile has up its sleeve.
