It looks like T-Mobile is following the example of its rivals by introducing a Number Transfer PIN (NTP) system. Although its rivals have earlier launched a similar system for secure port outs, this is also something that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has required.
Earlier today, The T-Mo Report shared an internal document detailing the Un-carrier’s new Number Transfer PIN system for port-out requests. With this system in place, T-Mobile postpaid customers will be required to give a unique 6-digit numeric PIN when they want to transfer their number. As explained in the document, this is for customers who aren’t on the Lifeline program.
This means that when a transfer request is made, the customer will be asked to provide an NTP from his T-Mobile account. The PIN can only be accessed through T-Mo’s official website or the T-Mobile app. Additionally, the PIN will only be valid for 7 days. Once that period is over, a new NTP will be required.
Right now, there is no announcement on when the NTP system will be activated. But the Un-carrier already informed its “industry partners” of its plans to implement this system last March 14th.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before the system is in place.
