Yesterday, T-Mobile gave a special webcast to announce their latest Un-carrier news. During the announcement, the company revealed its new app called Scam Shield. This app will provide a number of technologies aimed at helping fight scam calls and robocalls for all T-Mobile customers. And yes, the list includes Metro by T-Mobile and Sprint customers.
The app features advanced caller-ID, which shows the name of a caller even if his number is not on your contact list. This was previously a paid feature, called Name ID, that cost $4 per month per line and was offered on several plans.
In addition to the app, T-Mobile unveiled its new technology that uses machine learning to identify suspicious callers. The Un-carrier says their technology is 30% better than that of Verizon. That’s because T-Mobile automatically updates its list of suspicious numbers every six minutes.
While the app won’t be available until July 24, T-Mobile’s customers can enjoy the features for free by calling #662#. Sprint customers can download the Call Screener app for free too.
Another announcement that T-Mobile made is that it is giving its postpaid customers a secondary number for free. This way, they don’t have to give out their personal numbers to strangers or companies. T-Mobile also unveiled NumberChange, which is an option that lets customers get a new primary number for free.
Lastly, T-Mobile revealed that the Sprint brand will officially be retired on August 2. They will be converting its Sprint stores to T-Mobile stores and giving them “a fresh coat of magenta paint.”
