Verizon tablet users are facing a tough choice: pay more for the same service or settle for significantly less data. The wireless giant has rolled out new tablet plans that eliminate some of the better value options customers have enjoyed.
As reported by PhoneArena, Verizon has replaced its previous two-plan tablet lineup with three new tiers that mirror T-Mobile's pricing structure. While this might sound like more choice, the reality is less generous for budget-conscious users.
The changes hit hardest for people who were happy with Verizon's old $10 tablet plan. That plan used to include 5GB of data plus 15GB of mobile hotspot data - a solid deal for light users. Now, the $10 "Welcome" plan only provides 2GB of data with no hotspot allowance. To get back to that 15GB hotspot feature, you'll need to upgrade to the $20 "Unlimited" plan.
If you don't already have a Verizon phone plan, the standalone tablet prices are even steeper. The basic Welcome plan jumps to $80 per month, while the top-tier Unlimited Plus plan costs $110 monthly for standalone users.
The new structure offers three options for existing Verizon customers: Welcome ($10) with 2GB, Unlimited ($20) with unlimited data and 15GB hotspot, and Unlimited Plus ($25) with unlimited data and 100GB hotspot. All plans include 5G access and premium streaming quality.
This move comes as Verizon faces customer backlash over recent price increases and the elimination of longtime loyalty discounts. Many long-term customers are reportedly switching to competitors who offer better tablet data deals, particularly T-Mobile, which provides similar pricing but includes international data roaming that Verizon lacks.
For current tablet customers, it's unclear whether these changes will affect existing plans immediately. However, anyone looking to add a new tablet line or modify their current plan will face this new, less generous structure.
