Earlier this week, Verizon tried to quietly roll back a perk many of its long-time customers depended on: loyalty discounts. Suddenly, notifications began popping up in inboxes, warning that these automatic savings (often $10 to $40 off per line) would vanish by September 1st.
According to PhoneArena, the move sparked a backlash big enough to force a U-turn. Verizon is now offering those discounts back, with savings of up to $20 per line for customers who take a few extra steps—like tapping on the number-transfer PIN option in the My Verizon app.
But many say the damage is done. Bringing the discount back felt less like a peace offering, more like a hasty patch on a broken promise.
Meanwhile, Android Authority ran a quick poll and found that this isn’t just about missing a few bucks. Nearly two-thirds of respondents said rising prices and losing perks like these are pushing them to consider leaving Verizon; especially when they've stuck with the company for years.
One user even shared in the comments that after 25 years of loyalty, the recent changes were the final straw. For other users, the sudden removal and partial return of loyalty discounts sends a bigger message: customer trust is hard to earn—and easy to lose.
While the company may be hoping this gesture smooths things over, some longtime customers aren’t convinced. After all, when benefits start disappearing with little notice, it’s only natural to start looking around.
In this competitive mobile market, loyalty is a two-way street. And carriers who fail to recognize this (and ignoring that), may soon find themselves left behind.
