Last month, Verizon revealed that it will be selling its media business division. This included AOL and Yahoo, two businesses it acquired over the years. The media business division was sold to a private equity firm called Apollo Global Management for $5 billion. The deal is believed to close by the second half of the year.
Ever since the deal was announced, many couldn’t help but wonder what will happen to Verizon’s prepaid brand, Yahoo Mobile. And today, we’re getting an official announcement on Big Red’s plans for this prepaid brand.
Earlier today, Verizon started sending out an email to customers about the future of Yahoo Mobile. The prepaid brand will reportedly be shutting down soon. Customers are told that they will continue to have service for their current billing cycle and will still be able to renew their service for another month. But the service will completely shut down by August 31st.
In line with this, Verizon is encouraging customers to switch to its other prepaid brand, Visible. If you are a Yahoo Mobile customer, you can find out more by visiting this dedicated FAQ page.
