Good news to all Samsung Galaxy S21 device users! Samsung’s latest One UI 4.0 update version unlocks eSIM functionality on your phone--- only if you’re on Verizon or T-Mobile’s network.
Except for Google and Apple phones, eSIM functionality was not unlocked in US-based devices. So even if the previous Samsung Galaxy S20 series was marketed to have eSIM feature, you couldn’t use it with your carrier. With today’s announcement, however, things are changing for Galaxy S21 users.
When you update your Galaxy S21 device to the latest One UI 4.0 version, you can find the eSIM option activated on your phone. You can link eSIM to any carrier and not the one you already use on your phone.
If you’re using one of the Galaxy S21 models and you’re on a Verizon or T-Mobile plan, you can check to see if the feature is already available on your phone. Otherwise, you can head over to the Settings app to update your device. The feature will be rolling out within the week, although there are some Galaxy S21 series models that are expected to receive the update later this week.
