Verizon is putting serious money where its mouth is when it comes to supporting veterans. The wireless giant just announced it's committing $22 million to wipe out medical debt for former service members through 2026.
According to Verizon's official announcement, this isn't just talk - they've already erased nearly $9 million in medical debt for over 6,000 veterans in the Great Lakes region since the program started in 2024. That works out to more than $800 in relief per veteran.
What makes this program unique is how Verizon is tying it to sports. They've partnered with major teams like the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Pittsburgh Steelers. The newest deal with Columbus Crew means Verizon will provide $500,000 in initial debt relief, plus an extra $100,000 for every win or draw for the rest of the 2025 season.
The best part for veterans? There's no paperwork to fill out. Veterans who qualify will be contacted directly by ForgiveCo, Verizon's partner organization that handles the debt elimination. No applications, no hoops to jump through.
