For Android users, Google Wallet has been a big help in making quick payments. These users simply have to tap the back of their phone against a point-of-sale (POS) terminal and confirm their identity with a fingerprint sensor. Once everything is all set, the transaction is complete. Google only takes a small amount of the transaction as its fee.
Unfortunately, Google will no longer allow you to use Google Assistant/Google Pay’s “pay for gas” feature at a gas pump or parking area. Instead, they prefer that you use the Tap-to-Pay feature on Google Wallet. The feature will be going away today, December 12th.
And to be fair, Google Wallet’s Tap-to-Pay feature is a much faster process than using Google Assistant/Google Pay. When you use the latter option to pay for your gas, you’d have to choose the pump number, payment method, activate the pump, pump your gas, and make your payment. Meanwhile, Tap-to-Pay simply requires you to put your phone against the pump and start pumping your gas. This feature is also available at most gas stations.
The same can be said for making payments for street parking. Instead of using Google Assistant/Google Pay’s “pay for street parking” option, Google wants you to use the mobile payment option of your local city.
“We are removing the pay-for-park feature from the Google Pay app in the US. We originally offered this functionality to give people a simpler way to pay at meter and to help our partners enable contactless payments. Consumers can continue to use their local city’s mobile payment option for parking.”
