When Apple released the iPhone 14 this year, it introduced a new feature called Emergency SOS via Satellite. Through this, users are able to get in touch with emergency services even without Wi-Fi and/or Cellular coverage. The feature has already been able to save someone’s life earlier this month.
Since its launch, however, the feature has only been available in the US and Canada. Thankfully, Apple is expanding the feature to the UK. This brings the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature to several EU member states, including France, Germany, and Ireland.
Beginning today, users in these countries will be able to use the feature and help them during times of an emergency. Once the feature is activated, it will establish a connection with your local authorities as well as your emergency contacts. During an emergency, your device will share relevant information such as your location, accident details, and your Medical ID data.
Unfortunately, the feature is only available on the iPhone 14 series that runs iOS 16.1 or later. It also requires a subscription to use the feature. For the first two years, the feature will be available for free after activation of a new device.
You can check out the list of European countries where the feature is already available here.
