AT&T is raising its home internet prices by $5 per month starting December 1, but roughly 1 million customers will dodge the increase entirely. If you're using AT&T's fixed wireless internet service, you're in luck—your bill stays the same while fiber customers face another hit to their wallets.
According to PhoneArena, the price hike affects AT&T's nearly 10 million fiber broadband customers, but the company confirmed fixed wireless subscribers are exempt. Also getting a pass: anyone who signed up within the last year and customers on AT&T's $30 low-income plan.
AT&T is justifying the increase by pointing to higher operating costs as it expands its internet business. But the move highlights something interesting—fixed wireless has become more important to AT&T's future than many realize. The service, which launched in August 2023, was originally meant to keep customers happy while AT&T phased out old copper phone lines. Instead, it's grown faster than expected.
The company added 203,000 fixed wireless customers in the second quarter of 2025 alone, and analysts think the third quarter numbers will be even better. AT&T's fixed wireless plans start at $60 with paperless billing, or $47 when bundled with your phone plan—making them more affordable than many traditional cable options.
The bigger picture? AT&T is buying $23 billion worth of wireless spectrum from EchoStar, which could support roughly 900,000 more fixed wireless customers. That would bring AT&T's total capacity to about 6.3 million users. For context, competitors Verizon and T-Mobile are already ahead with 5.1 million and 7.3 million fixed wireless subscribers respectively.
If you're on fiber and frustrated about paying more, you might want to check if fixed wireless is available at your address. With AT&T clearly betting big on the technology, it could be worth making the switch—especially since those customers are getting better treatment on pricing right now.
