Apple fans should starting marking their calendars now. According to a report published by Buzzfeed, Apple will be holding its next product launch on the week of September 7th, and there is a strong possibility that the exact date will be on September 9th of this year. The timing would certainly be appropriate, or at least consistent with past product launches in the previous years. Just last year, for instance, the tech giant launched its flagship device, the iPhone 6, on September 9th. That smartphone, and its bigger sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus, went on to become two of the best selling iPhones of all time.
As reported by the Buzzfeed story, apart from launching its latest iPhone devices, Apple will also take the opportunity to tease its upcoming new iPads as well as its new and improved Apple TV. Interestingly, in past product launches, Apple has held separate events for its smartphones and tablets. The company typically announces a new iPhone offering on a September, and then proceed to introducing a new iPad the next month. But this time around, it is likely that Apple is launching a new iPhone and iPad together.
Some industry watchers are now speculating that lumping the launch dates of both devices may mean that Apple does not have anything major to unveil regarding its newest products. For some time now, iPad fans have been waiting for the company to announce a new 12.9 inch iPad Pro. It could happen come September 9th, or not.
As for a new iPhone, it is a sure bet that consumers will hear about a new one next month. And Apple will need to take advantage of the whatever momentum is left from the success of its iPhone 6 devices. Industry analysts expect this year to see an S model of the current iPhone. This means that almost certainly, we will see an iPhone 6S unveiled in the next few weeks. But considering that it is only an S edition, the new iPhone will probably not have any major hardware upgrades, but only tweaks in existing features found in the iPhone 6, although some of the tweaks are really interesting.
Apple’s smartphones make up over two thirds of the company’s revenue. But the tech giant may need to be wary -- the global market for smartphones is currently slowing down. With tablets, it is even more worrying. Apple’s quarterly sales of its iPad devices have decreased year over year for the past six quarters. If the company is to introduce a new iPad on September, it better sell enough to reinvigorate its slumping tablet sales.
Apple is also expected to announce a new version of its Apple TV, and will probably be unveiled together with a web based TV service. It has already been three years since the Apple TV was last updated, and it may be high time this device gets an upgrade.
