With the Apple Watch scheduled to be released in the United States less than two months away, it is pretty understandable that fans of wearable devices are getting really excited.
Now, these fans have another reason to be hyped up. Apparently, the iPhone Companion app of the Apple Watch has been leaked. This Companion app's purported purpose is to allow users to manage the Apple Watch's settings as well as control how the wearable device will interact with their iPhones.
9to5Mac has even posted several screenshots of the Companion app's possible appearance and even listed its rumored features and capabilities. Nothing is certain at this point, but this leak should at least give diehard fans an inkling of what to expect of Apple's first ever smartwatch.
By all accounts, having a Companion app that lets users manage and even organize the apps found on the Apple Watch's home screen sounds like a really clever idea. Through a virtual view on the iPhone, people can just move, re-arrange, or swap apps on the smartwatch's screen.
On top of all that, the Companion app will also allow users to personalize their Apple Watch's clock face and customize the wearable device's settings. Background details can be altered as preferred, visual notifications can be preset, and other alerts can be adjusted as desired by the user.
Another cool thing about the Companion app is that it will let users configure how Messages can be viewed or interacted with. People can set up pre-composed text replies, choose between Dictation and Audio Reply in answering messages, and even select which contacts they want to receive text messages from.
As for its fitness-related functionality, users can adjust Accessibility settings through the Companion app and activate whichever fitness tracking features they want to use.
The Passcode can also be activated through the Companion app. Just like on the iPhone, users will be able to create a 4-digit number to unlock the wearable device.
Lastly, the Companion app also displays all the standard About settings, which means users can view important information like storage capacity status, details of apps, serial number, and even Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity settings.
The Apple Watch is one of the most highly anticipated mobile devices this year. When the wearable device makes its debut in March, it will mark the first time that Apple introduces a wearable device in the market, which is already packed with other smartwatch entries made by Samsung, LG, Motorola, and Sony.
In general, smartwatches have not reached mainstream success yet, but some industry experts are predicting that with the release of the Apple Watch, the wearables market will be galvanized. Well, we will soon find out in a couple of months.
