Here is some good news for customers under AT&T’s prepaid brand -- Cricket Wireless has decided to boost the data cap on its $50 a month plan. From 5 gigabytes of data, mobile users now get to enjoy 8 gigabytes of data monthly. Also, the mobile operator has also done well to make the $50 a month plan a permanent option, instead of remaining as a special offer previously.
And that is not all. On top of the data cap changes on the $50 a month plan, Cricket Wireless is also increasing the data allowances on the $40 a month plan (from 2.5 gigabytes of data to 3 gigabytes) as well as on the $60 a month plan (from 10 gigabytes of data to 12 gigabytes). The increased data caps for the $40, $50, and $60 a month plans will go live this coming January 27th and will apply to both new and existing customers.
This recent move by Cricket Wireless comes after T-Mobile’s latest Uncarrier event in which the major US wireless carrier (and rival to Cricket’s parent company, AT&T) appear to be following in Cricket’s footsteps, particularly in bundling miscellaneous taxes and fees into the monthly cost of a mobile plan. The effect of this approach is that customers who avail of the plan will only pay for the monthly charge being advertised, with zero surprises in their monthly bills.
Back in October of last year, Cricket Wireless had increased the data cap of its $50 plan from 5 gigabytes to 8 gigabytes, as part of a promotional deal. For those not familiar with this plan, it already includes unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited 2G data, plus the ability to make full use of these inclusions when visiting countries like Mexico and Canada, at no extra cost.
Apart from boosting the data caps on its plans, Cricket Wireless also took the opportunity to launch a new tax season special offer. This latest deal is targeting new customers of the carrier, especially those looking to purchase a smartphone at a lesser price. Among the handsets that Cricket is offering at a discount are Samsung’s Galaxy Amp Prime for $29.99, as well as LG’s Stylo 2 for $79.99. The full list is as follows:
