Yup, you read that headline right. Dish, the satellite TV provider, has just launched a new service that offers to fix Apple iPhone devices, and the really cool thing about this is that those availing of the service will never need to get out of their homes. Granted, this latest move from a company primarily known for satellite TV services is a bit odd, but why not, right?
As far as experience in fixing iPhones is concerned, Dish may have its work cut out for it. Sure, it has had decades worth of expertise in repairing its own antennas and set top boxes, but obviously, servicing broken iPhone devices is a different story altogether. Still, as explained by John Swieringa, the Vice President of Operations at Dish, the company’s team of technicians do have the technical know how to pull this off. This means that from antennas and set top boxes, Dish’s technicians will now have to deal with cracked display screens and faulty batteries on iOS powered mobile devices.
It should be noted that Dish’s Smart Phone Repair offering is not only made exclusively available to customers of the satellite TV provider. However, availing of the service does mean that people with broken iPhone devices will have to spend on a one time $35 charge in order to have a technician personally their home or office.
Beyond the $35 fee, customers will be required to pay cash between $40 and $190. The cost will normally depend on the specific problem to be fixed, as well as the specific model of the affected iPhone device. For those not comfortable with that price range, they may do well to remember that it is still a lot less than what Apple typically charges for accidental damages, especially if the iPhone owner does not have Apple Care or Apple Care+ coverage. The service is available to all 50 states in America, with same day and next day appointments possible, seven days a week.
Also, it bears noting that during launch, the Dish’s Smart Phone Repair service is only going be made available for models such as the iPhone 5, the iPhone 5c, the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6 Plus, and of course, last year’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices. Alas, the service apparently does not cover this year’s iPhone SE yet. But do not fret too much -- Dish has revealed that it is planning to provide support for other iPhone models in the next few months.
