As reported by FierceWireless, mobile virtual network operator FreedomPop is introducing a new cloud based wireless platform that businesses can take full advantage of when setting up their own branded wireless offerings. The service is called Carrier in the Cloud, and it is basically an extension of the MVNO’s proprietary SaaS platform.
According to the report, FreedomPop’s Carrier in the Cloud service has already attracted some takers, including Virgin Mobile (a prepaid brand operated by major US wireless carrier Sprint). Apparently, Virgin Mobile will be making full use of the platform in providing mobile services in the United Arab Emirates. Other customers include Turk Telecom, the biggest mobile operator in Turkey, and Cyta, the number one cable TV service company in Greece. FreedomPop also took the opportunity to reveal that a month ago, Dish Mexico had utilized the cloud based mobile platform as it debuted its free wireless service to millions of customers. Of course, FreedomPop is not only targeting carriers with its new Carrier in the Cloud platform. As a matter of fact, the MVNO is also selling the offering to TV providers and even financial services companies.
Allowing its customers some measure of flexibility has always been a chief priority for FreedomPop in every aspect of its operations. The Carrier in the Cloud is no exception to this -- as pointed out by Stephen Stokols, the chief executive officer of the carrier, the new mobile platform grants enterprises the means for rolling out fully operating branded wireless services wherever and whenever they can.
For those not familiar yet with what FreedomPop can offer, it might be a good idea to check out our 2017 review of the carrier. Basically, the MVNO employs a freemium model that makes it easier for mobile users to quickly avail of its wireless service on the outset. The free plan already offers 200 minutes of voice calls, 500 text messages, and 500 megabytes of data on a monthly basis.
After signing up, customers can then opt to upgrade to plans that come with expanded inclusions or extra value-added services (e.g. Safety Mode that helps users avoid overage fees, additional local phone numbers for users based outside the United States). People can also purchase devices, and of course, SIM cards that can be easily activated on handsets they already own.
