The world’s biggest seller of smartphone devices is set to unveil its latest phablet offering, the Galaxy Note 7, on August 2nd of this year, but by the time Samsung officially announces its newest handset next week, much of the surprise may have already ran out. The South Korean phone maker has already launched a teaser campaign for the Galaxy Note 7 on Korean TV, highlighting the device’s water resistant capabilities (just like this year’s Galaxy S7 devices). Talk Android then revealed several purported features and functionalities of the upcoming latest Galaxy Note device. 9to5Google then joined in on the fun by sharing loads of leaked information, plus some possibly genuine images of the soon to be unveiled handset.
Rumors and leaks can not always be trusted, especially in the age of the Internet and social media, but the reported information regarding the Galaxy Note 7’s specifications are pretty much consistent with what most industry watchers are expecting of the smartphone. Some of the leaked spec information include:
Gorilla Glass 5, the latest smartphone glass material from Corning; the Galaxy Note 7 is said to be the first high profile smartphone release to sport Gorilla Glass 5
An S Pen (possibly water resistant) that can translate anything the user writes into another language when using software on the Galaxy Note 7
A data protection feature reminiscent of iCloud that provides online backup for all digital content, plus 5 gigabytes of free storage
USC C connector compatibility, but also including a USB C to micro USB adapter in order to plug older peripherals
Release date on August 19th of this year via T-Mobile, and possibly other wireless carriers as well
Other rumored specs include a 5.7 inch display screen, a 12 megapixel camera, expandable storage by way of micro SD, a bigger battery, and iris scanning technology. Most of the speculation were reported as recently as in the last couple of months. Talk of the iris scanning tech surfaced in the early part of June this year. During the same month, it was reported that Samsung was to begin production of the Galaxy Note 7 the following month, just in time to roll out the first few batches for the August 2nd launch. Before June ended, news of a possible curved display screen hit the interwebs. By the time July rolled in, rumors and leaks pertaining to the Galaxy Note 7 were numerous, especially after its specifications were reported to have been spotted on a number of benchmark websites. In mid-July, Samsung starting sending out invitations for an Unpacked event. The invitation came with the text “7 Unpacked 2016” which should be a dead giveaway that, yup, the Galaxy Note 7 is definitely going to be announced during that event.
