Just a week ago, rumors of Apple developing a foldable iPhone model surfaced in the interwebs. The talk was that the tech giant was teaming up with LG in order to start building a smartphone with a foldable OLED screen possibly three years from now. Well, unlike the iPhone maker, ZTE is not waiting until the end of the decade to showcase its own take on the foldable phone concept.
Meet the Axon M. Basically, the Axon M consists of a couple of 5.2 inch screens that can be combined to deliver a single 6.75 inch Full HD screen (with a slight break in the middle, however). Or, the two screens can be made to display separate content or launch various individual mobile apps. Lastly, both displays can also achieve a mirror mode, wherein the two sides show exactly the same stuff. This could be useful when trying to show content to multiple readers simultaneously.
Before we forget, let us go through the basic specs. The two 5.2 inch FHD screens feature a resolution of 1,080 by 1,920 pixels. The device also comes with a 20 megapixel camera (which can shoot 4K video footage) that can be used as both the rear side camera and as a front side camera. The phone is equipped with a 2.15 GigaHertz four core Qualcomm chip set, aided by 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) as well as 64 gigabytes of built in storage, that is expandable by way of a micro SD memory slot (up to 256 gigabytes of additional capacity). The Axon M also offers a fingerprint reader, a 3,180 mAh battery, and Google’s Android 7.1.2 Nougat mobile operating system.
ZTE’s Axon M will be made available in the United States mobile market some time next month, as well as in other major markets like Europe, Japan, and of course, the phone maker’s native homeland China. The Chinese mobile manufacturer also managed to strike a deal with one of the Big Four mobile operators in America -- AT&T -- who now holds the exclusive carrier rights to sell the handset in the country. Through the second biggest carrier in the US, the Axon M will be priced at $24.17 per month (for a period of 30 months), or at $725, via AT&T’s equipment installment option.
