The OnePlus 3 was only released as recently as June earlier this year, but OnePlus is already offering an upgraded version of its latest flagship device. Indeed, in many ways, the OnePlus 3T is a solid follow up to the OnePlus 3, and almost certainly an improved effort, with a new chip set (Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor), a bigger battery, and enhanced camera specifications. With all the upgrades, it is no surprise that the OnePlus 3T also has a higher price compared to the OnePlus 3 -- the 64 gigabyte edition of the newer version is at $439, which is forty bucks more expensive than its predecessor.
With regards to camera specs, the 16 megapixel selfie shooter on the front side may too much to handle for some users. But OnePlus has a reason for doing that -- it wants its users to produce better quality when live streaming. As for the rear camera, it also gets a sapphire crystal cover upgrade, which should provide additional protection against scratches.
It is quite impressive how the OnePlus 3T managed to house a bigger 3,400 mAh battery while retaining the same dimensions as the OnePlus 3. The previous version already was equipped with a formidable 3,000 mAh battery, but the extra 400 mAh on the newer OnePlus device’s should translate to better battery stamina. Also, the support for rapid charging certainly does not hurt.
There is much to admire in OnePlus’ effort to release an upgraded version of its flagship device in just five months. Most phone makers would typically wait a whole year before offering an enhanced variant. For OnePlus, it was all about giving customers the best user experience possible at the soonest time. The Chinese phone maker certainly has the leeway to make this happen. For one, the company is choosing to put most of its attention to specific markets, instead of going for a more worldwide approach. It may not have the global reach of industry leaders Samsung and Apple, but its pinpoint focus has definitely allowed it to be quick when it comes to upgrading its devices.
And now that the OnePlus 3T is coming, sales of the OnePlus 3 will soon cease. For those who still want to grab the OnePlus 3, they may want to purchase now while stocks are still available. But for those who want an improved version, they can do no wrong with the OnePlus 3T.
The OnePlus 3T will be made available starting on November 22nd. A 128 gigabyte edition is also offered at $479.
