According to a recent report published by Nikkei Asian Review, it turns out that the 3D sensor being used on the iPhone X’s Face ID feature is apparently going through some production issues. Because of these issues, Apple’s manufacturing partners can not seem to produce iPhone X units fast enough, which could affect the company’s ability to meet the demand, at least with regards to the first initial orders.
The iPhone X was first unveiled by Apple a little more than a couple of weeks ago, alongside two other new iPhone models -- the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. Although the iPhone 8 devices have since hit store shelves back in September 22nd, the iPhone X is yet to go on sale more than a month from now, specifically on November 3rd of this year (with preorders to commence on October 27th).
No doubt, some may have been wondering why the iPhone X is taking a bit long to get launched. Earlier reports have indicated that it is merely because this particular model takes longer to produce compared to the iPhone 8 models, mainly on account of the iPhone X’s more demanding specifications.
But as reported by Nikkei, it has more to do with how the 3D sensors are being manufactured, which are at a slower pace. Because of this, iPhone X units are being built at only tens of thousands on a daily basis, instead of at a more regular pace (around hundreds of thousands of units each day).
Interestingly, the number of iPhone 8 buyers so far has not been as big as that of previous iPhone models. This has led several industry watchers to think that iOS mobile users out there (or those looking to be one) are waiting for the iPhone X instead of buying an iPhone 8 now. This should not be that surprising -- after all, the iPhone X is the more hyped model, mainly because it is supposed to be the iPhone that celebrates the ten years long existence of the iPhone.
In other iPhone X related news, MacRumors has reported that according to a support document on Apple’s website, users will not need to have any one of tech giant’s USB C power adapters in quick charging the newest iPhone models. According to Apple, this year’s iPhones can be fast charged with the use of any comparable third party USB C power adapter, as long as it comes with support for the USB Power Delivery spec.
