According to a report recently released by Barclays, it appears that Apple is indeed already working on its new generation AirPods, and this time around, the latest models are said to come with noise cancelling capabilities (plus other enhancements).
Some may remember that more than a couple of weeks ago, Bloomberg had also reported that Apple is planning to release a fresh breed of AirPods. In that report, it was mentioned that the newest models would offer users the ability to enable Apple’s digital assistant Siri by using voice commands, instead of just physically tapping the AirPods in their ears. Also, according to Bloomberg, the next generation AirPods could be released in the market as early as the busy 2018 holiday shopping season. However, an even cooler water proof variant may be launched some time next year.
It has been more than a year since the original AirPods were first officially unveiled by Apple, together with the unveiling of the tech giant’s 2016 flagship device offerings -- the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. The headphones have since become certified hits, leading the totally wireless earphone market about a year since making its debut. Various industry watchers now estimate that the AirPods have taken around 85 percent of the worldwide market for wireless headphones. Need more proof? Last Christmas, the AirPods have sold out. And due to the fact that Apple has since released three other new iPhone models without headphone jacks (namely, the iPhone X, the iPhone 8, and the iPhone 8 Plus), more and more iPhone users will be buying the AirPods in the months or even years to come.
Music loving iOS mobile users will also have another reason to be excited about this year -- last September, the second biggest mobile manufacturer in the world has formally confirmed the existence of its AirPower wireless charging mat. The AirPower is expected to be compatible with the current iPhone flagships, the Apple Watch Series 3, and of course, the AirPods, with the help of a new contactless charge case.
And that is not all -- there is also speculation that Apple is developing a set of premium headphones. Not to be confused with the AirPods, these new headphones are of the over the ear kind. These headphones are also said to offer noise cancelling capabilities. But wait -- doesn’t Apple already have its Beats headphones? That is true, but the upcoming headphones will be under Apple’s own brand name, as opposed to carrying the Beats brand.
