About two weeks ago, LG had announced that some of its smartphones would be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop very soon. The phone maker stated that most likely, the LG G3 smartphone will be the first of its devices to get the update before the end of the year.
LG is certainly making good on its promise. Last Sunday, the mobile manufacturer announced that it will start rolling out the latest version of the Android mobile operating system for its flagship device, the LG G3. This makes LG just about the first major smartphone maker to get Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for its flagship phones.
LG confirmed that the update will be rolled out first to LG G3 owners based in Poland. Wait -- why there? LG says that a number of factors come into play, e.g. size of the market, availability of wireless carriers, and of course, LG's current capabilities logistics-wise. According to the phone maker, Poland just happens to have the right mix of all the key factors, making the country a good place to start for the Lollipop roll-out.
By doing so, LG has effectively positioned itself ahead of its competitors with regards to updating its phones with newest version of the Android OS. Even Google, which by all rights should have been the first to deploy, has yet to update its existing Nexus line of devices, particularly the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 devices. There are reports recently that the tech giant is postponing the Lollipop updates for these Nexus devices because there are still some bugs in the OS that needed to be fixed.
Still, Google had promised that the updates will begin to be available in November, and since we are not halfway through the month yet, the company still have ample time to hold true to its word.
As for LG, they may gotten to a fast start, but they have not revealed yet which other markets (apart from Poland) will be getting the Lollipop updates soon. Depending how fast LG can complete its roll-out, other phone makers can still catch up.
Since its official introduction, Android 5.0 Lollipop has been gathering plenty of attention, not only from die-hard Android fans, but also for casual ones as well. There is plenty to be excited about in the latest Android OS. Chief among these is Material Design, which prettily sums up the new and improved overall design of the system, marshaling animations and some neatly organized layout to further enhance the way Android users operate their smartphones. Something which users of the LG G3 (in Poland, of course) can now experience for themselves.
