According to a report recently published by The Korea Herald, Samsung might be launching its upcoming Galaxy Note 8 phablet some time in August later this year. In previous years, the South Korean phone maker had often released new Galaxy Note devices just in time for the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) Show held annually in the city of Berlin in Germany usually in late August. In 2016, however, the company had decided to launch the ill fated Galaxy Note 7 in early August. The early release would not have mattered much, but considering how disastrous the Galaxy Note 7 turned out to be (a couple of recalls and a discontinuation altogether), many were quick to think that rushing the launch of the device might not have been a good idea (the reason for the early launch date was to pre-empt Apple’s release of the iPhone 7 in early September).
With the upcoming Galaxy Note 8, Samsung gets another shot at redeeming its Galaxy Note lineup of phablets. It is no secret that the South Korean mobile manufacturer has since significantly overhauled its safety measures and quality control measures in order to prevent another Galaxy Note 7 mess from happening, and this year’s Galaxy S8, which underwent a new standard eight point battery check, is certainly a step in that direction.
Obviously, Samsung is hoping it could replicate the Galaxy S8’s success with its upcoming Galaxy Note 8. But it should be noted that this year is not just any year in the world of mobile. 2017 happens to be the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone, and this year, many are expecting Apple to release an iPhone like no other, to commemorate a decade of smartphone excellence.
Can the Galaxy Note 8 hold its own against this year’s iPhone offering? It remains to be seen for now, but recent rumors might give consumers an idea of what to expect, at least. There is talk that the Galaxy Note 8 will be fitted with a bezel-less display screen measuring 6.3 inches in size. The device is said to offer an 18.5 to 9 (or higher) length to width screen ratio. Other rumored specifications include a dual camera configuration on the rear side, with 13 megapixel and 12 megapixel cameras. Furthermore, other phone makers will be eager to prove to everybody that they will not be intimidated with whatever Apple is preparing to unleash on us all. Another South Korean phone maker, LG, is also readying to launch a flagship device, the V30, later this year.
