It was more than a couple of months ago when Sony had first announced its Xperia XZ2 Premium phablet. Some may remember that back in February early this year during the annual Mobile World Congress tech show at Barcelona in Spain, the Japanese tech giant had sort of promised that it would deliver a new Xperia model that would offer a camera designed for capturing images in minimum light conditions. While it is true that the company did unveil two new Xperia models (the Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact) since, these devices’ camera specs did not particularly make good on Sony’s promise of a super low light camera.
Thankfully, the introduction of the Xperia XZ2 Premium back in April should take care of that. Up until this week, however, Sony had not released any details regarding pricing and availability. But now, the phone maker has just announced that the Xperia XZ2 Premium will be hitting store shelves in the United States mobile market on July 30th for a price of $999.99.
For those who missed the news of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium’s unveiling, its basic specifications include a fairly big 5.8 inch HDR display (delivering a resolution of 2,160 by 3,840 pixels), with full support for 4K. This screen is complemented with a twin camera set up on the rear side, consisting of a whopping 19 megapixel color lens and a 12 megapixel monochrome sensor. On the front side also sits a 13 megapixel selfie shooter. As far as hardware specs are concerned, the phablet boasts Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip, aided by 6 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) as well as 64 gigabytes of built in storage. The device packs a 3,540 mAh battery and is powered by Google’s Android Oreo mobile operating system.
Beginning July 9th, prospective buyers will be able to preorder their Xperia XZ2 Premium unit from Amazon and Best Buy. For those planning to order in advance from Amazon, they might be delighted to know that the e-commerce giant happens to be bundling the handset with Sony’s own Xperia Ear Duo wireless headphones (they are normally worth $280, but the bundle deal offers them free of charge). For some, the $999.99 pricing may be a bit intimidating. But when one considers the improved camera specs and other enhancements not found on the regular Xperia XZ2 model.
