Just this week, Sprint has decided to unveil a couple of new unlimited plans -- one is a new top tier option that is pricier than the major US wireless carrier’s unlimited plan, and the other is a basic plan that has about the same price as the mobile operator’s Unlimited Freedom plan (more on this later).
The new top tier unlimited option is called Unlimited Plus, and it is priced at $70 per month for a single line of service, or $180 for four lines. For those customers who are looking to bring in their own handset or purchase a new unit outright, they can enjoy a $20 discount on each line of service they avail.
So what does the Unlimited Plus plan offer aside from the usual unlimited plan inclusions? Well, for starters it comes with 1,080p video streaming, 15 gigabytes of personal hotspot data, and subscriptions to streaming services Tidal and Hulu, among many others. Prospective customers must take note though that music streaming will be throttled to 1.5 megabits per second (mbps), while gaming streams will be limited to 8 mbps. On top of all that, those who eat up over 50 gigabytes of data in a month’s time may find their connection speeds slowed down.
As for the Unlimited Basic plan, it is priced at $60 per month for a line of service, or $140 for four lines. This option allows customers to enjoy video streaming but only at 480p resolution, and personal hotspot service at just 500 megabytes. Unlike the Unlimited Plus plan which includes both Tidal and Hulu, the cheaper Unlimited Basic only comes with Hulu. Music streaming will be throttled at 500 kilobits per second (kbps), game streams at 2 mbps, and subscribers who consume over 50 gigabytes per month may have their speeds decreased.
Some may have already noticed how the newer Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Basic plans are more expensive than Sprint’s previous Unlimited Freedom option, which is available at $60 per month for one line of service, and by way of a special offer, only a hundred bucks for four lines of service. But note that that special offer pricing though is expected to increase within a year to $160 per month for four lines. Unlimited Freedom also includes Hulu, as well as 10 gigabytes of personal hotspot data per line.
