Sprint has always been keen on offering more data for its customers compared to its competitors. Indeed, back in August, the carrier had introduced its Family Share Pack and a $60 Unlimited Plan. This time, Sprint is turning its attention to light data consumers.
Just today, the carrier announced that it is offering a 1-gigabyte shared data bucket for its Family Share Pack. Priced at $20, the 1-gigabyte allotment is a significant improvement from the carrier's previous offer, which saw its customers only get 600 megabytes of data. Sprint's Family Share Plan requires its subscribers to pay a monthly fee of $25 per line for non-discounted smartphones, or a monthly fee of $40 for discounted devices.
1 gigabyte may not be that much, especially for heavy data users, let alone groups or families with extensive data needs. But it does serve as a nice option for small groups consisting of two or three people who only have light data usage. And considering how little data allotment the previous subscribers had (only 600 megabytes), at least it is an upgrade.
And compared with those offered by other competitors, Sprint's deal still sounds good. The 1-gigabyte allotment is easily double the data offered by Verizon Wireless, and over 3 times the data offered by AT&T at the same price.
With this recent development, Sprint subscribers can build their own plan in three quick steps. First of all, they just need to select the shared data allowance. 1 gigabyte data will cost them $20 monthly for a maximum of 10 lines of service. The next thing they will do is add data access for smartphones with unlimited calls and text messaging while on the Sprint Network. As mentioned earlier, Sprint charges $25 per month per line for 1 gigabyte through 16 gigabytes. Thirdly, subscribers can add tablet devices for $10 per month per line and mobile broadband devices for $20 per month per line. For non-discounted phones, there are no early termination fees and annual service contracts.
Furthermore, in the event that customers switch their number to Sprint, a family with a maximum of 10 lines of service can enjoy $20 gigabytes of shared data, plus unlimited calls and text messaging, for only $100 monthly through 2015. For a family with four members, that is equivalent to $60 monthly savings, with twice the data compared to AT&T's and Verizon's, and double the high-speed data offered by T-Mobile.
