Sprint has decided to expand its Open World travel add-on by adding unlimited high speed data in Brazil (albeit only temporarily). Why, you ask? This is all in joining in on the spirit of the Rio Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this year. Excitement for the Olympics is about to reach fever pitch and for subscribers of Sprint, it is good to know that the major US wireless carrier is now competing against the likes of AT&T and T-Mobile in offering a roaming deal for those who are looking to be part of the 31st Olympic Games.
Until the end of this month, subscribers of Sprint who are going to Rio de Janeiro to attend the Olympics now get to have unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited high speed data by adding Open World to their postpaid mobile plan. For those not in the know, the Open World package costs nothing to add, and can provide savings for customers looking to avoid paying exorbitant roaming charges when traveling to countries outside of the United States.
Apart from one whole month of unlimited fast data in Brazil, the Open World add-on also provides subscribers with unlimited voice calls, text messaging, and 1 gigabyte of fast data every month to use across Latin America, as well as in Mexico and Canada. Customers can expect to enjoy a gigabyte of LTE data in countries that include Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Easter Island, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
The Open World package also comes with discounted call rates in over 120 additional territories, starting from $0.20 a minute, plus data priced at $0.03 a megabyte and unlimited text messaging. For subscribers who want to avail of the additional Open World add-in, all they need to do is head to the nearest Sprint outlet, or make full use of the wireless carrier’s online self serve portal.
As mentioned earlier, Sprint now joins other major US wireless carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile in offering Olympics related packages to their respective subscribers traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. AT&T was first to unveil its deal back in June earlier this year, launching its $50 Brazil Passport Summer Package, which comes with 1 gigabyte of high speed data use in Brazil as well as half an hour of voice calls, and unlimited text messaging and unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot use at over a thousand locations across the South American country.
T-Mobile followed suit in July, announcing its Brazil Unleashed offer, which provides Simple Choice plan subscribers unlimited voice calls, text messaging, and high speed data use in Brazil for the whole month of August. The deal was made available to subscribers on eligible plans at no additional fees, which meant that once the customer arrives in Brazil, the offer is automatically activated.
