T-Mobile has just announced that it will be giving customers who switch to its MetroPCS prepaid brand (check out our 2018 review) from rival networks a couple of months of wireless service, completely free of charge. According to the official press release, new customers can pick from the $50 Unlimited LTE plan, the $60 plan that comes with Unlimited LTE plus 10 gigabytes of hotspot data, or the $100 plan that offers four lines of service with Unlimited LTE. After the two months of unlimited service with a timely second month payment, those availing of the deal can get to receive a $100 prepaid Mastercard.
Mobile deals that promise free wireless service are all the rage these days. For instance, Boost Mobile (the prepaid arm of national carrier Sprint) is currently offering a whole month of free service. This offer is made available to customers who are willing to bring their own handset to Boost’s network, and then the credit for the free month will then be applied after the user completes his or her first monthly payment. Of course, Sprint’s deal may be considered the mother of all free wireless service deals. Since the summer season of last year, the fourth biggest mobile service provider in the United States has been offering one whole year of free unlimited service to customers who defect from other major carriers and bring their own device. Although these promotional deals are typically offered on a limited time only, Sprint has since been continuing to extend its deal, suggesting strongly that there is indeed significant demand.
As for T-Mobile’s deal, it should help add to the momentum the mobile operator has been generating recently. The third biggest carrier had closed 2017 by gaining 149,000 branded prepaid net adds during the final quarter, finishing with a total of 855,000 for the entire year. The company is expected to report its quarterly results for Q1 2018 soon, so we should be able to get an idea how the Uncarrier is faring of late.
In other related news, T-Mobile has also recently revealed that any one of its subscribers who currently own an iPhone device can now take full advantage of Apple Business Chat. For those not familiar with Apple Business Chat, it is basically a messaging platform that allows users to schedule appointments or place orders with businesses. For T-Mobile subscribers, however, the feature will let them change their rate plans and address, pay a bill, check their latest balances, and even purchase a new handset.
