Sprint is apparently deciding to keep on offering its free year of unlimited service deal -- about a month ago, the carrier had stated that the offer was supposed to expire at the end of January, but the company has since announced its intentions of extending the deal until the end of April later this year.
Sprint’s free year of unlimited service had made its debut back in June of last year. At that time, the deal was introduced as a sort of limited time only offer. Now, the limited time only label might not be that accurate anymore, considering that the offer is already running for around ten months now.
There is a pretty good reason that Sprint is continuing to offer the free year of unlimited service deal. For one, it is obviously a popular offer among customers and prospective subscribers. It goes without saying that enjoying one whole year of unlimited service, free of charge, is an incredibly generous offer by any measure. And it certainly helps that the offer is made available to any customer willing to switch to Sprint from a rival network, and who owns any one of about three dozen qualified handsets (including high profile smartphone releases from Samsung, Apple, and Motorola, among many others; for the complete list of eligible devices, scroll down at the end of this post).
Also, the free year of unlimited service offer appears to have contributed significantly in generating some positive financial results for Sprint. After introducing the promotional deal, the carrier had since registered its first quarterly profit in three years. On top of that, the free year of unlimited service also helped the company gain 88,000 net postpaid customers. And during the final quarter of 2017, the fourth biggest mobile operator in the United States also managed to record postpaid phone customer additions of 184,000.
