T-Mobile’s latest announcements during its recent Uncarrier X event held in the city of Los Angeles in California generated a lot of buzz, but lost in all that noise was a major price hike especially for new subscribers of the wireless carrier who need only a single smartphone on their mobile plan.
As currently seen on T-Mobile’s official site right now, customers who go for a single line of service plan that includes unlimited data use will expect to pay $80 every month. But beginning November 15th this year, a single line of service that comes with unlimited data will be priced at $95 a month. And it should be noted that such pricing does not include any taxes as well as any extra monthly fees subscribers may have to pay for their smartphone.
This change in the pricing will come on the same date that the third biggest wireless carrier in the United States will officially launch its new Binge On service. Unveiled during the recent Uncarrier X event, T-Mobile’s Binge On feature allows mobile users to stream video content without ever worrying if it will affect their data allotment.
As for existing subscribers of T-Mobile, fortunately for them they will be able to enjoy the same pricing structure. Moreover, the wireless carrier is also allowing its subscribers to use 14 gigabytes a month of their unlimited data plan for tethering purposes. This is up from the 7 gigabytes that T-Mobile is currently allowing.
New subscribers of T-Mobile may be getting a free video rental from Vudu each month beginning next year. But it may be of little comfort to them knowing that they will have to deal with paying $80 a month for unlimited data if they decide to sign up under T-Mobile. The best things in life truly are not always free, or even affordable.
However, if one is searching for a family plan, there is a way of getting the same price on data that T-Mobile is offering right now. If a customer is going for more than one line of service and all of these lines select the same data plan, they will get a discount. If they select a couple of lines of service, all with unlimited data, they will pay the same $140 a month compared to signing up for T-Mobile now. As for a family plan consisting of four lines of service and unlimited data, it is available at just $180 a month today, since T-Mobile has decided to make the fourth line of service absolutely free of charge.
For those who can manage without unlimited data, they may be pleased to know that T-Mobile is providing more data on its capped plans. Currently, the $50 a month total includes 1 gigabyte of LTE data, but on November 15th, that same price will offer 2 gigabytes. Paying $65 will get one 6 gigabytes of LTE data a month, and 10 gigabytes of data is available for $80. Current subscribers can expect their data plans to double, plus the Binge On feature will be offered to these users.
