It was back in August of last year when Verizon Wireless had decided to revamp its its existing unlimited plans. It had introduced (or re-introduced) an unlimited data plan about six months earlier, but then later divided it into the following tiers: the Go Unlimited plan, the Beyond Unlimited plan, and the Business Unlimited plan (for enterprise clients).
This week sees the industry leader once again make changes to its unlimited data structure, this time around unveiling a new Above Unlimited plan, which goes live this coming June 18th. This latest offering already comes with unlimited data (with HD video for up to 75 gigabytes before the Big Red’s throttling policy kicks in); plus 20 gigabytes of mobile hotspot data at LTE connection speeds, five TravelPasses (providing subscribers one day of international data access per month), and 500 gigabytes of Verizon Cloud. The pricing of the Above Unlimited plan rices from $60 to $95 for each line of service.
It should be mentioned that the pricing and inclusions of the Go Unlimited and Beyond Unlimited plans have remained the same. The price of the former rangers from $40 to $75 per line of service, promising unlimited data (but just 480p video streaming and mobile hotspot speeds at 600 kilobits per second; while the latter is at $50 to $85 per line, delivering high def video for up to 22 gigabits and mobile hotspot at LTE speeds for up to 15 gigabytes.
The number one wireless service provider in the United States has also opted to change how its subscribers can select their plan by basically letting people mix and match different tiers within the same family plan. Such a set up should prove useful, especially for households consisting of family members with different wireless needs. While it may be true that this amended structure allows for some flexibility by giving more options to Verizon subscribers, it can get confusing too for some.
As pointed out by Ronan Dunne, the president of Verizon Wireless, during a recent interview, customers can switch tiers at any time, and even current subscribers of the Big Red can also choose to make some changes to their existing plan. Although not all were happy with the introduction of the Above Unlimited plan (which is more expensive than the Go Unlimited and Beyond Unlimited plans), Dunne has stated that Verizon will continue to explore options and maybe even consider launching a more affordable unlimited plan in the future.
