For those who were closely following every development related to Android Oreo (Go Edition), or Android Go for short, they might known that two phone makers were sort of racing to be first to release an Android Go powered device in the United States mobile market. Those two brands, of course, are Alcatel and ZTE.
During the annual Mobile World Congress event held earlier this year at the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain, Alcatel had introduced no less than seven new smartphones, and one of them was the Alcatel 1X, an Android Go phone. A couple of weeks later, Alcatel would later confirm that the 1X was going to be released in America some time later this year.
ZTE also had similar Android Go plans -- along with the official unveiling of its new Blade V9 phablet, the Chinese tech giant also made the announcement that it was going to soon launch the Tempo Go (basically the Go powered variant of the ZTE Tempo handset) in the US. Well, it appears that ZTE has won the race. The phone maker has revealed that its Tempo Go is now made available for purchasing from its official website at a price of $80.
One can say that ZTE’s smartphones are a perfect fit for Google’s Android Go. This particular version of the world’s most widely used mobile operating system is supposed to be more light weight, ideal for low end spec handsets or older smartphone models. Android running phones from global brands such as Samsung and LG may feature the most advanced Android experience, but Android Go is aiming for efficiency, focusing instead on the basics.
In the case of ZTE’s Tempo Go offering, Android Go is pretty much at home with the device’s modest specifications. The smartphone offers a 5 inch FWVGA display screen, with a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels, and complemented with a 5 megapixel main camera on the rear side and a 2 megapixel selfie shooter on the front side. Inside, the handset is fitted with a 1.1 GigaHertz four core Qualcomm 210 MSM8909 chip set, aided with 1 gigabyte of random access memory (RAM) and 8 gigabytes of built in memory (plus support for micro SD cards). Lastly, the phone is equipped with a 2,200 mAh battery.
