iOS device users, expect to see more ads on the App Store. As revealed by 9to5Mac, Apple plans to add a couple of new ad slots to its App Store as a way of expanding its advertising business.
Right now, there are two places where ads are situated in the App Store: the main ‘Search’ tab and the Search results. With the new announcement, users can expect to see an ad on the ‘Today’ homepage and on individual app pages.
This decision allows developers to situate their ads in other areas other than the Search tab and Search results. When bidding for ad placement on a product page, developers don’t have the option to target a certain app. But Apple promises that the ads will be relevant for product pages. As a user, you might see ads for direct competitors.
Explaining this decision, Apple says that it is giving developers more ways to target and reach new customers.
The new ads that will show up on the Today tab will be clearly marked as an ad with a blue banner/background like it has with Search ads. There is no word on when ads will start appearing on these two locations.
