How often do you change your phone?
Lately, it seems like wireless carriers are making it easier for their subscribers to own the latest devices. It started with T-Mobile’s Go5G Next plan, which gives customers a chance to upgrade their device once a year by trading in their previous devices without paying the remaining installment balance. AT&T a similar plan incentive to its own customers with Next UP.
Next UP comes as a plan add-on that customers can add on eligible rate plans for $6 per month. Through this option, customers can upgrade to a new device as long as they’ve already paid off 50% of their current device. But it seems like AT&T has an edge over this add-on feature.
As spotted by The Mobile Report, AT&T has expanded this add-on with an “Anytime” option. This means that customers can trade-in their current device up to three times per 12 months. The remaining balance will then be waived so they can start a new installment on their newest smartphone.
There’s a catch though. Instead of the original $6 per month fee on the Next UP add-on, Next UP Anytime costs $10 per month. Before they can be eligible for a new smartphone deal, customers will need to pay at least 33% of their current phone’s full cost.
AT&T will also be testing this add-on in select markets starting Tuesday, July 2. After testing in “Northeast states,” the add-on feature might get rolled out to other markets after July 25.
