For the second time this year, Comcast was victimized by a massive data breach.
Comcast confirmed that it was affected by a third-party breach in a filing with the state of Maine. The breach took place in February, but the cable company was informed of it in July.
According to the company, the personal information of more than 237,703 customers were exposed when a third-party debt collection company, Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS), was hacked. The compromised data, dating back to 2021, included customers’ names, addresses, birth dates, and social security numbers. Ever since they were notified of the ransomware attack, Comcast has stopped using FBCS’ services.
This is the second massive data breach that Comcast experienced in a span of a year. It previously encountered a large data breach due to a security vulnerability that left the customer data of 35 million Xfinity customers in the hands of hackers.
