Dish Network recently hosted an earnings call where it gave an update on its Las Vegas 5G wireless service. According to the company, the service is already in its final construction phase and is expected to launch in beta before September ends.
This is an important launch for Dish, especially since it hopes to cover 70% of the US population by June 2023. But it looks like this will be a challenge for Dish since it continues to lose wireless customers. In Q1, Dish had a net loss of 161,000 wireless subscribers. And in today’s earnings call, the company reportedly lost 201,000 wireless subscribers during Q2 2021.
In its announcement, Dish revealed that the beta phase will last at least 90 days. This will allow testers to give their feedback on the service and Dish can also troubleshoot issues. And as expected, the network is not expected to work perfectly right away. This is why the beta stage is in effect so that issues can be addressed.
