The EU General Court has made its decision. Google has lost its appeal against the antitrust fine filed by the European Commission. The court diminished the fine from $4.34 billion to $4.1 billion.
As reported by PhoneArena, Google may need to pay $240 million less than the fine unless an appeal is made. This is because the Court did not find enough evidence that Google paid manufacturers and carriers money to install Google Search on its devices.
The Court, however, found that Google was guilty of blackmailing Android device manufacturers into pre-installing its Chrome browser. The filing also alleged that Google tried to hinder manufacturers from making their own Android forks.
Google responded to the decision of the court in an emailed statement:
“We are disappointed that the court did not annul the decision in full. Android has created more choice for everyone, not less, and supports thousands of successful businesses in Europe and around the world.”
