If you've recently transitioned to the new Google Fi Essentials plan, you might have noticed an unexpected hiccup: the inability to modify your Google One subscription or add a new payment method.
Don't worry—this is a known issue, and it's only temporary.
Previously, certain Google Fi plans included a complimentary Google One subscription. Upon switching to the Essentials plan, which doesn't offer this perk, users have found themselves unable to upgrade or adjust their Google One settings. As reported by Android Authority, attempts to make changes often result in a 403 error message.
This situation arises because, after changing plans, your Google One account is still linked to the old Fi plan. Google needs to sever this connection before you can manage your Google One subscription independently. This process typically takes about a week.
Patience is key here. After approximately seven days, Google will automatically downgrade your Google One account to the free tier and send you an email notification.
Once this occurs, you'll have the freedom to resubscribe or upgrade your storage plan as needed.
No need to panic. Google provides a grace period during which your data remains safe, even if you're over the free storage limit. However, it's advisable not to delay too long in renewing your subscription to ensure uninterrupted access to your files.
While the lack of immediate communication from Google can be frustrating, rest assured that this is a standard part of the transition process. Your ability to manage your Google One subscription will be restored shortly, allowing you to tailor your storage needs to your preferences.
