Google has been making changes to its Messages app for Android. Apart from a new icon, they have released new chimes for sent and received messages. According to 9to5Google, Google’s new sounds are shorter and softer.
Another change that Google made to its Messages app is that users can now react using any emoji on the Rich Communication Service (RCS) platform instead of the currently available options.
The Google Messages app also has new sent, delivered, and read indicators for messages. When a message has been sent, a small circle with a checkmark inside will be shown. Meanwhile, a delivered text message will show two circles with checkmarks. Once a message is read by the recipient, the circle will be colored.
If you want to make changes to the sound on incoming messages, you simply have to go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Default notification sound. You’ll see a list of sounds on the top box where you can pick out a sound you wish to use as an alert for incoming messages. After picking one out, don’t forget to save the new settings.
When a thread is open, however, the Messages app will be the one to determine the sound it will play for incoming and outgoing messages.
You can check out a sample of the new sound here.
