Privacy and security are important to everyone. This is why people are always looking for a messaging platform that protects their conversations. And for quite some time, Google’s RCS has always been a top choice since it offers fully end-to-end encryption (E2EE).
Unfortunately, RCS’ encryption only happens in direct messages. Group chats, on the other hand, are a completely different story.
As discovered by Android Authority, RCS messages in group chats become unencrypted if there is one or more users who aren’t using the app’s beta version. Not to mention, users have to enable the service when they first use Messages. Thankfully, this is something that Google is changing.
In an announcement today, Google revealed that they will now be switching on RCS to all Messages users by default. More importantly, Google Messages encryption will now be activated for all group chats, despite a user’s participation in the beta program. As long as the members of the group are using RCS, their group chat gets encrypted too.
By enabling RCS on default, users no longer need to do it by themselves. End-to-end encryption becomes enabled on Messages so they can be confident their messages stay safe.
