There are rumors circulating online that Google has canceled the Pixel 5a. Since many publications have reported on the story, Google has spoken up to address the rumors.
According to Google, the Pixel 5a 5G will still be launched later this year. They plan to launch the device along with the Pixel 4a in the US and Japan around August.
The rumor comes from a YouTube user, who said that the Pixel 5a is being canceled because of a shortage problem with its chip. A publication later backed the statement with a couple of sources.
When the rumor reached Google, a spokesperson for the company refuted the rumor.
“Pixel 5a 5G is not canceled. It will be available later this year in the US and Japan and announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced.”
It’s important to note that the rumor pointed to the Pixel 5a while Google talked about the Pixel 5a 5G. Right now though, there’s no official word on whether Google will be making two separate models.
There are also some reports suggesting that Google will be launching the Pixel 6 around the same time as the Pixel 5a 5G. If the reports are true, then we could see Google launching three devices at the same time.
