If you were among those who downloaded an Android app called Barcode Scanner, it’s important that you uninstall it right away.
A security firm called MalwareBytes recently reported that this particular app delivers adware. According to the report, an update released in December allowed the app to push out ads for a Cleaner for Android phones that would remove junk files and improve your device’s battery life.
Ever since the report, the app has been removed from the Play Store. But if you used the app before, it could still be installed on your device.
The app lets your phone scan barcodes and reads them. Because of its feature, the app has already been installed on over 10 million devices. When it was still part of Google Play Pass program, there was no issue with the app for years. So it was a big surprise that this app was flagged as such.
Just to be on the safe side though, it’s best that you uninstall the app from your device asap.
