Earlier today, a report revealed that T-Mobile has a new program for third-party marketers. With this, customer app activity can be tracked and purchased.
As T-Mobile explains, the information obtained is anonymous. The app activity of T-Mo customers are collected and sorted according to similar interests and behaviors. In doing so, the app history of a specific user is not purchased by a marketer.
Still, this is pretty scary to think about. And thankfully, there is a way to opt out of this program.
You can download the “Magenta Marketing Platform Choices” app on your Android or iOS device. Through this app, you can opt out of the program and even see which companies have your data. If you prefer not to download an app, you can use App Choices to opt out of the program.
iOS users are excluded from the program, even if they decide to opt in the program.
