Up to this day, the major carriers are still finding ways to deal with SIM swap fraud problems that its customers experience. And recently, T-Mobile seems to be working on a way to fix this to make sure none of its customers get victimized once again. But as the Un-carrier works at making this happen, there are also some limitations to SIM swap features right now.
As reported by The T-Mo Report, T-Mobile will temporarily be disabling in-app and online SIM swaps “until further notice.” The publication found a (now deleted) Reddit post detailing what will happen during this time.
They also received documents that confirmed the post. According to the publication, T-Mobile will be “implementing extra security measures around SIM changes.” But in order to implement this, self-service SIM swaps will need to be disabled for the time being.
Customers who attempt to do a SIM swap on their own will be advised to call customer service or go directly to a retail store.
