In recent years, T-Mobile has been leading the 5G space in the country. And today’s new announcement proves just how far ahead the Un-carrier is compared to its competitors.
The company’s engineers were recently able to produce over 3Gbps speeds using a commercial Samsung Galaxy S22. The speed was derived from a “live production” network, which T-Mo marks as another “global first” for the company. Of course, this was achieved by combining a couple of 2.5GHz Ultra Capacity 5G channels and an extra 1900MHz spectrum channel. Together, these make up the first “nationwide” Standalone 5G network in the world.
As pointed out by PhoneArena, Verizon was able to derive over 5Gbps 5G speeds back in a lab test in 2020. This, however, is far different from what T-Mobile was able to achieve today. Instead, T-Mo did not make use of any millimeter wave spectrum.
Adding to the fact that the speed was achieved using a commercially available Galaxy S22, this is a pretty exciting deal for customers. And as noted by the Un-carrier, this is just the beginning. Other devices will soon be able to achieve these speeds, performance, and capacity that the Galaxy S22 has obtained. Some of the models that will likely be capable of Standalone 5G Carrier Aggregation in the near future are the devices from the upcoming Apple iPhone 14 series.
