The latest Apple iPhone 15 series was just released last week yet there’s already a number of users complaining of the device overheating. To be more specific, the device that is being affected by this is the premium variants, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The issue seems to be occurring when users are charging, playing video games, or using social media apps. One user, a tech influencer, shared that his iPhone 15 Pro overheated while he was listening to music and browsing Instagram. He shared:
"For like 5 minutes the phone just gets really hot and blasts through like 5% battery. And then it’s fine again afterward."
Another tech reviewer, @iPhonedo, shared a video on YouTube blaming Instagram for causing the overheating issue. This user shared that the issue started occurring when he updated other devices like iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, and iPad Pro to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17. The YouTuber shared that the issue only happens when using Instagram.
PhoneArena pointed out that the temperature on these devices max out at approximately 116 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to Faruk, the person behind the YouTube page, this is not simply an iPhone problem. This seems to support a claim from earlier this year that Meta intentionally drains batteries on Facebook and Messenger, which is part of its negative testing.
But it’s also important to note that there are other users who are not using Instagram when their devices overheat. As AndroidAuthority reported, some devices heat up during regular use. There are also others who experience the issue during a phone call or a FaceTime call.
Despite the number of people who raised concerns about this issue, Apple has kept mum. Some staff from Apple tech support have pointed customers to an old support page that discusses overheating issues while using intensive apps, setting up a new device, or charging. But it doesn’t mention the iPhone 15 Pro.
Hopefully, Apple will work on fixing this issue as soon as possible.
