A few days ago, T-Mobile confirmed that it would be shutting down Sprint’s CDMA network on January 1, 2022. And now, Verizon and AT&T are also reminding the public about its own CDMA network shutdown and how it will affect customers.
Verizon has delayed the date of its CDMA 3G network shutdown for a number of times already. But according to its latest announcement, the shutdown will take place on December 31, 2022.
Once the network has been shutdown, all customers that are still using a 3G basic phone or smartphone will lose service. There will be a few 4G devices that will be affected, particularly the models that don’t support Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
In addition to that, there will be a few connected devices that will be affected. You can check out the company’s full guidelines for helpful information.
AT&T, on the other hand, will be shutting down its 3G network on February 22, 2022. The company has released a complete list of phones, smartwatches, and tablets that will continue to work after their 3G network has shut down.
Most of the concern on the shutdown is the many home security devices and alarms that make use of AT&T’s 3G network. Users will need to replace these devices right away so that they won’t be affected by the network shutdown.
If you are still using a 3G device, it may be time to start shopping for a new device so you won’t be affected by the network changes that will take place next year.
