Verizon’s prepaid plans now come with support for cellular smartwatches.
As revealed by 9to5Google, this has been available for quite a few weeks already. So it’s surprising that Big Red did not make an announcement for this. But with this in place, Verizon subscribers who are hoping to add a plan for a cellular smartwatch can opt in. They don’t need to have a postpaid plan for the service either.
Verizon has been offering a prepaid connected smartwatch plan at $10 per month. With the new addition, subscribers have other options to choose from: a Standalone Connected Smartwatch plan that comes with unlimited talk, text, and 5G nationwide or 4G LTE data with 15GB high-speed data, or a Number Share Mobile prepaid plan with the same allotment.
The only difference is that the latter allows customers to pair their smartphone with their smartwatch and share the number. The two plans also cost $10 per month so there’s not much difference. The only thing you’ll have to choose from is whether you prefer having one number or separate numbers. Taxes and fees are not yet included though.
On Verizon’s website, the carrier notes that prepaid accounts can only get 10 phone lines (smartphones, basic phones, tablets, and mobile hotspots) and 30 total lines (both phones and Connected Smartwatch lines).
Verizon also points out that the Apple Watch Series 3 is not compatible with the standalone plan. Palm devices and Hum are also not eligible for prepaid service.
